show off

(みえをはる) (noun form:みえっぱり!) a soft, friendly criticism that you can say to your friends without causing offense. It means ‘show off’ but more specifically “to be fronting that you are something you are not.” (for example, if your friend is buying a $500 suit to wear to the class reunion, that’s 見栄っ張り) So you wouldn’t use this about someone who is phony ALL THE TIME. (that’s きどりや)。   $$$

せびらかす(みせびらかす) To show off. This is not an offensive term – you can even say it about yourself, “I’d like to show off my new boyfriend!”
